GUIDELINES

Volunteering in the library is a great way to become involved in your child’s school. Our Librarian relies on volunteers so that she can run the library smoothly and focus on our children. Volunteers typically work during their child’s weekly 45 minute visit to the library.  A library volunteer has three primary responsibilities:

  • checking books in when they are returned
  • checking books out when the children have made their selections
  • re-shelving the returned books

The calendar year is divided into three 11-week sessions.  Session I begins 9/23/19, Session II begins 12/29/19, and Session III begins 3/2/20.  Two volunteers will alternate weeks during each session.  Up to 6 volunteers will be assigned to a classroom.  This will help the volunteers to be more familiar with the library system and maintain better consistency and accuracy for the library while minimizing confusion with scheduling.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I AM INTERESTED IN BEING A LIBRARY VOLUNTEER?
If you are interested in being a library volunteer, please first consult the 2019-20 library schedule, which will be linked here and distributed via email when signups open, to ensure you can attend at the time and day of the week that your child’s class has their weekly visit. The schedule will also be posted in the library. Then complete this form by the close of school on Wednesday, September 11, 2019.  Late forms will be processed only if we are in need of additional volunteers.

Fill out a separate form for each child and indicate if you are available Sep-Dec, Dec-Feb or March-May.  Additionally, please note on the form if you were not assigned a shift last year. We will try to accommodate prioritization requests if you have multiple children at Brayton. However, due to the availability of volunteers for each particular class, this may not be possible. We thank you in advance for your understanding.  Those volunteers who did not get a shift last year are given priority to get a library shift this year. We make every effort to assign a shift to as many new volunteers as possible, so everyone gets a chance at this fun experience.

Once submitted, you will receive an email confirming that your signup form has been processed.

If you have questions on the schedule, please contact Cathy Gingeleskie  before signing up.

HOW WILL I KNOW WHEN I AM SCHEDULED TO BE IN THE LIBRARY?
The library volunteer schedule will be distributed by email by the third full week of school. Volunteers will begin assisting the School Librarian as soon as possible thereafter.

If you do not receive an email with the schedule, you were not assigned a shift this year.
