Brayton school hours are from 8:15 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Arrival:
Students should arrive between 8:05 and 8:15 a.m. There is no adult supervision at Brayton School prior to 8:05 a.m. For your child’s safety, do not allow your child to be at school prior to 8:05.
Arrival Doors:
Students should report to their arrival door for line up and entrance into school at the 8:15 a.m. bell.

Car Drop Off Arrival: Children may be dropped off by car at the Myrtle Avenue entrance only. For your child’s safety do not drop off your child on Tulip Avenue at any time. Police will ticket offenders.
Inclement Weather Arrival: Red flags are posted at the Junior Playground and Myrtle Avenue entrances when heavy rain/snow and/or extreme cold call for an inside arrival (an “in day”). Children are invited to enter through the Myrtle Avenue door during regular arrival times and report to the gymnasium. Adults supervise in days starting at 8:05 a.m.
Early Arrival: With prior permission from a teacher, your child may enter Brayton prior to 8:15 a.m. for extra help or to participate in special projects/specific groups. Prior to 8:00 a.m. the teacher will meet your child at a designated spot. Between 8:00 and 8:15 a.m. your child should buzz in at the Myrtle Ave. door (only). The child should state her name and reason for entering the school early.
Tardy Arrival: Your child is tardy when arriving after the 8:15 a.m. bell. Tardiness is strongly discouraged. Children should buzz in at the Myrtle Ave. entrance (only) and report to the office to explain the reason for tardiness and place his hot lunch order (if needed). If a child is late to school three times or more, he or she will be asked to stay after school to make up lost time.
Dismissal: Dismissal is at 3:00 p.m. Children are dismissed by their teachers from their arrival doors. You gave written instructions for your child’s dismissal at the beginning of the school year. Any deviation from those written instructions must be accompanied by a parent/guardian note. Those picking up your child may be asked to show picture identification to the teacher.
Attendance: Good attendance is essential to success in school and all children should strive for excellent attendance records. Ill children are not expected to attend school. Please use good judgment. Do make every effort to plan your vacations during regular school vacation times.
Absence Procedure: Please call the Main Office prior to 8:15 a.m. to report your child absent any and every morning the child will not attend school. You may leave a message on the voicemail. Alternately, you can email the Brayton office email box @ besASAP@summit.k12.nj.us. If you do not notify the school and your child is not in school the Office will assume your child is missing. If you or your emergency contacts cannot be reached the Office will call the appropriate authorities to look for your child.
Single Sessions: On single session days, elementary students attend school from 8:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
School Closings or Delayed Openings: It is the policy of the Summit Public Schools to close only in the case of emergencies, the prime consideration being the safety of the children. Schools may close for the entire day or, on certain occasions, there may be a delayed opening of school rather than a full day’s closing. When there is a delayed opening, elementary schools will open at 10:15 a.m.
If school is closed or if there is a delayed opening, an announcement will be posted on the district’s website and on the district’s main telephone number, (908) 918-2100. Parents will be notified through the School Messenger Notification System at the contact info included in Genesis.
Parents should not call the police or fire departments, the superintendent of schools, or school offices to find out if school is in session.
Should there be school when the weather is stormy, the decision whether or not to send children to school rests with the parents. Parents have the ultimate responsibility for the safety of their children.
