May Letter from Dr. Moretz

May 25, 2022

Dear Brayton Parents,

I know that you join with me in sending our deepest condolences to those families in Texas affected by the most recent school shooting tragedy.
When horrific events such as this occur, it is natural that we all feel just a little more aware of our vulnerability in the school setting. Please know that our district has established protocols and procedures to assure the safety of all children and staff in our Summit buildings.  I assume that by now you have read the letter from our district superintendent, Mr. Hough, regarding safety measures in the school. At Brayton, we practice and follow those procedures regularly.
Our teachers are well aware of the needs of their students, and they watch them carefully for any signs of undue stress every day, but particularly on days following such tragic events. I know that they will contact you with any concerns. In addition, we have a school counselor available to speak with children who may need additional support.
At home, I recommend that we try to shield our young children as much as possible. It is probably inevitable that they may hear something from a friend or a newscast. As you speak with them, continue to reassure them of their safety at our school and the availability to speak with a teacher, counselor, nurse or principal if they are worried or need support. There are additional resources for parents that are given in Mr. Hough’s letter.
It is extremely sad that in 2022 we have to worry about events such as these happening in any school anywhere in the United States. Let us continue to work together to assure the safety and happiness of our Brayton children.  As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincere Regards,

Cheryl
