New COVID-19 Cases in the District

Dear Summit Public Schools Community,

The District has been notified of three COVID-19 cases: an individual from Brayton Elementary School, an individual from Jefferson Primary Center, and an individual from Lawton C. Johnson Summit Middle School. Our Nursing Department, in collaboration with the Department of Health, conducted contact tracing and did not identify any potential close contacts at the schools. All schools in the District are currently utilizing remote learning until January 14, 2021.

Our local Department of Health is recommending a 10-day travel quarantine for travelers and residents who are returning from states and territories beyond the immediate region, and a 14-day exposure quarantine. We will adhere to their quarantine recommendations and continue to follow guidance from our local health experts who are dedicated to our local needs.

If you learn that your child has tested positive for COVID-19, immediately contact the building principal, school nurse, and if notifying after school hours. The timely notification will allow us to immediately begin contact tracing. We will continue to collaborate with the Department of Health to complete contact tracing and monitor the number of positive cases in our school community, as well as follow their recommendations of closing in any capacity.

Please use the remote days before our return on January 14 to self-quarantine, avoid social gatherings, and practice preventive measures to limit the spread of COVID-19 in our school community. We will continue to communicate in an open and transparent manner, while respecting confidentiality. Thank you for your ongoing patience, cooperation, and trust as we continue to navigate through these circumstances together.

Be well,
