Latest COVID-19 Cases in Summit District

Dear Summit Public Schools Community,

We are writing to inform you that the District has been notified that two individuals from Summit High School, one individual from Lawton C. Johnson Summit Middle School, and one individual from Lincoln-Hubbard Elementary School have tested positive for COVID-19. Our Nursing Department, in collaboration with the Department of Health, conducted contact tracing for all cases and identified potential close contacts. If you have not been contacted, you have not been identified as a potential close contact to any of these cases.

Health officials did not recommend closing any of our schools. The Department of Health reassured us that the District is not experiencing extraordinary circumstances related to the number of positive cases in our schools. We will continue to collaborate with the Department of Health to complete contact tracing and monitor the number of positive cases in our school community. In the event an individual school experiences multiple positive cases at the same time, the Department of Health may recommend closing that school for 14 days. The Department of Health will consider the size of the school, the number of concurrent positive cases, and the origin of exposure when making a recommendation. Based on this information, we are not in a place where the Department of Health is recommending to close any of our schools. We will continue to follow the practices that have helped keep our schools open, and our students and staff healthy and safe.

We ask our school community to carry over protective measures on weekends and days off in order to maintain a safe environment at school. Please continue to conduct daily temperature and symptom checks before sending your child to school. We understand it is difficult, but please do your best to avoid large social gatherings. We will continue to communicate with our Summit Public Schools community in an open and transparent manner, while respecting confidentiality. Thank you for your ongoing patience, cooperation, and trust as we continue to navigate through these circumstances together.

Be well,
