Introducing Brayton Cares: Community Service Club

What is Brayton Cares? Brayton Cares is an after school service club that teaches the value of helping others through hands-on service projects, volunteering and fundraising.

What will students do? Each month will feature a different service project or volunteering opportunity. We will arrange for outside speakers from area nonprofits to educate students on their organization and ways to give back.

Examples of potential activities:

  • Assemble bagged lunches or toilette kits for Bridges
  • Loom hats for NICU babies or cancer patients at Overlook
  • Help Grace Pantry set up for evening food distribution
  • Paint and distribute kindness rocks
  • Clean up park
  • Make cards for Brayton custodial staff / teachers
  • Make birthday-in-a-box kits for kids in shelter
  • Make “giving grows” piggybanks to sell for fundraiser (proceeds go back to a cause)
  • Make calming bottles for children with sensory / anxiety issues

How often will students meet? Our goal is to meet monthly.

Where will students meet? Primarily at Brayton, but there may be opportunities for off-site field trips if we can secure enough parent volunteers.

Who can join? Anyone! Please note that some activities may be limited to specific grades.

Does my student need to commit for the year? No. Each month, we will announce our programming and open up registration. Registration is first come, first serve and limited.

Is there a cost? There are no member dues. However, when there are activities where there is a cost such as lunch items for Bridges, we will ask for material or monetary contributions.

How can I get more information? Please sign up to receive our email newsletter below. We will also promote upcoming events via PTO email, website and social media.

LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITY

Seeking 4th and 5th grade students to serve on the Brayton Cares Advisory Committee. The Committee will identify community needs, plan activities in partnership with adult volunteers, oversee activities, etc. Please contact Cynthia Verhave here if your student is interested!

 PARENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

If you are a parent interested in volunteering, please contact Cynthia Verhave here. We will need people to help with supplies, on-site management and off-site field trips (must be fingerprinted).
